How to access Cognos® Institutional Research Reports

  1. Start your preferred browser, Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Log into Portal.

  3. Locate the pagelet and click on a link to start a report. For example, click on “Enrollment by College”.

  4. For the purposes of this document, assume you selected “Enrollment by College”. You will see a prompt page. There are two required prompts and one optional prompt. First, you must select one of the available five reports. Then you may choose a College or School. If you decide you do not want to select a specific college or school, the report will default to all colleges and schools at UNT. The "Select Term Comparison” prompt already has a default value chosen. You may accept the default or choose a different term comparison. Lastly, you must click “Finish” to run the report. “Finish” is shown grayed out in the screen shot below. It will be available when the required selections are chosen.

  5. The resulting Enrollment by College report. Use the scroll bar to see the entire report.

  6. On the report above, the Colleges/Schools are on the left and are formatted as blue and underlined text which means they are hyperlinks that can be clicked on to drill through to detail reports. Click once and the next report is displayed. In this example, the next report is Enrollment by College by Department.
  7. On the partial page below, there is an icon that allows you to return to the previous report. It is in the upper right-hand corner with an arrow pointing to the left, circled in red. The icon circled next to it allows you to display the report in a PDF format. Circled at the bottom left, are the navigation links, which are used when a report generates more than one page. You will use them to navigate through the report, go to the top, or bottom.
